BRIDGES offers counselling to both men who have abused and their (ex) partners. The Institute offers individual, couple, family and group counseling. We help people to take responsibility for their choices and be accountable for repairing the harms they have created. The people who have been harmed are invited to talk about what they believe would be helpful for the person who has harmed them to make restitution.
Sometimes this process results in restoring intimate relationships. In other cases, this process leads to safe and respectful separations and divorces. People consider how to be respectful of the person they have harmed while continuing to co-parent or live in a small community together.
This restorative justice approach to conversations about domestic violence is influenced by narrative therapy and feminism.
